1) Take the Wolfe Island Ferry: The last ferry departs Kingston at 2am, making for a perfect middle of the night excursion out of town. Stop at the Tim Horton’s by the ferry dock, load up on TimBits / Coffee and head for the boat. Once on the island you’ve got a few hours to kill until the next boat returns, so we suggest making the trek to the big cathedral (Sacred Heart Catholic Church). It’s ridiculously beautiful in the middle of the night.
2) Hang out at Classics Tea Lounge: This joint is open until 2 or 3 most nights and it’s a fun alternative to being drunk in a bar. There are big windows where you can watch drunk people exit / enter the bars, and it’ll make you happy that you are not one of them. Try the Taro (with tapioca) Bubble Tea. It’s blissful.
3) Shop at A&P: A&P is definitely an after hours staple – hobos, drunks, insomnias – the whole town is there! Your best bet is to scour the store for deals. Everything seems to go on sale after midnight and lots of food expires, so you can get it free or cheap. Also, there are more cute stock boys around at this time if you are so inclined and the check-out ladies are sleepier and might not charge you for all the snickers bars you’ve shoved in your purse.
4) Drink at the Pilot House: Who knew such a sweet spot stayed open so late? Well, the Pilot House serves up tasty beers and fried things until the wee hours of the morning. They’ve got 14 beers on tap and nothing tastes better at 2 in the morning than a cold one .. except maybe Bubba’s.
5) Eat at Denny’s: The be all-end-all middle of the night joint: Try their mini-burgers, share a shake, and make a like a tired and lonesome trucker until the sun comes up.
Runner Up: Watch TV at Burger King: Sure they are your standard 24/7 fast-food place, but the Princess & Division location has flat screen tvs for watchin’ .. as well as stellar view of the HUB. Burgers + flat screen = my happy place.
Who else is open? Bubba’s (until 3:30), McDonalds (24/7), Tim Horton’s (24/7), Stauffer Library (2am or 24/7 during exams), Pizza Pizza (until 2 or 3), Madeleine’s (3am), Pita Pit (3am), El Asador (3am on Thurs, Fri, Sat), Common Ground (until 1am, 24/7 during exams), Tir Nan ‘Og (2am), VIP Chinese (2am), Mac-Correy (24/7), The JDUC (24/7)
