Brand new to Brock Street, Sipps Coffee & Dessert Bar is a good place to stop for a latte after browsing the Antiques Market or Farmer’s Market.
As soon as you walk into this café it becomes obvious that a premium coffee experience is being sold here. The decor is very polished- contemporary meets classic Kingston with intermingling brick and limestone, bright tin ceiling tiles and versatile, high black tables. It needs to be broken in a bit- we’re looking for scuffs and scratches!
Everything is bright and open here, unlike a lot of darker coffee shops, which makes drinking coffee feel like a very public experience. There are no nooks, and privacy seems lacking- (our conversation was picked up and discussed by another table).
Surprisingly- the coffee prices do not match the decor- they are surprisingly reasonable (3.77 is the most expensive regular beverage). There are a number of specialty drinks available as well, many with enticing names like Blackberry Viennese and Banana Split. The lowest grade of coffee is not particularly tasty- we recommend opting for a specialty roast, and avoid the iced mochas.
If you’re interested in a pastry item, there are a number of delicate and scrumptious looking confections behind glass. They are NOT cheap. A piece of chocolate zuccatto will set you back over $7.00.
We Recommend: Nothing we tried was recommend worthy. We plan to revisit in a month and see how things are going.
