Next in line in our sketchy holiday nosh and nog series: Holiday Spice Hot Smoothees at Tim Hortons.
Since there are about 14 of these venerable establishments in Kingston (Tim’s that is) it’s entirely likely that you may find yourself near one with a hankering for a hot smoothee.
First off- don’t do it. Nothing that is hot should be thick like a smoothee. This drink, thank goodness, is more of a ‘frothee’, but it’s still too thick. It is likely that the thing is full of hydrogenated oils. Better to go home and slice yourself a wedge of Crisco.
The flavour- specifically of the ‘holiday spice’ variety- is painfully artificial, and probably comes from the same supplier that makes flavourings for those crappy egg nog candy canes. The hazelnut smoothee is a little better, but it’s still doubtful that a real nut ever came near one of those things.
In short, the Holiday Spice Hot Smoothie is not all it’s cracked up to be- if it ever was. Better stick to what Tim Hortons is known for: coffee.
