Otherwise known as the CoGro, the Common Ground is your average campus coffee shop. Here you can find a number of coffee-based beverages (they always serve up a Fair Trade blend) along with smoothies and Italian sodas. Usually the coffee tastes kind of awful, it’ll do in a pinch, but you’re better off grabbing a cup at the Tim Horton’s downstairs.
They also food at the CoGro, and the food is darn tasty. They make awesome sandwiches (try the Ham, Apple Cheddar) and their toasted bagels with cream cheese are magic somehow (top it with bruschetta). They also have cake – really good cake.
Located on the second floor of the JDUC, Common Ground has ample space filled with comfy sofas and armchairs, along with regular tables. This is a very popular place on campus, and you are likely to run into all your friends while you attempt to study there. Line-ups can be long in the morning and around lunch-time, but fear not, the line moves fast.
During exam time the Common Ground is open exceptionally late, often 24 hours, and it provides a welcome break from studying at all hours in Stauffer. Various tv shows, movies, and Open Mic nights are held here in the evenings – and it’s always pretty packed. Be sure to get there early on Thursday nights for episodes of Studio Q, a comedic television show produced by Queen’s students.
