May 2, 2010

1) They Offer Free Workouts
The lulu store in Kingston offers numerous free workout classes each week. All you have to do is show up and an instructor will be ready and waiting to teach. They have yoga mats you can borrow and all you need to bring is a water bottle. You can even [...]

She’s Bringing Sexy Back

December 6, 2006

Cynthia’s, an ‘adult toy’ shop on Queen Street, has a great selection of sex toys, books, movies, fun condoms and lingerie. For such a small shop, she manages to fit in a varied and unique collection of items. Some wild, most tasteful, it’s a store that you don’t mind spending a fair bit of time [...]

Wallack’s – “Your Creative Source”

November 26, 2006

Wallacks is “Your creative source”, but hopefully not the source of your creativity. If that is the case, you had best go grab a sandwich and ponder your career or hobby choices.
If you have a hankering to paint or do something art-related, AND you have no creativity, but recognize this, you should head to Wallack’s.
Wallacks [...]

Dolan’s Smo-king, Indeed

November 23, 2006

Dolan’s Smo-King (I’m not totally sure that’s its name- its sign has ‘Smo’ and ‘king’ separated by a pipe), is definitely one of downtown Kingston’s quirkiest shops.
As its name suggests, Smo-king sells all sorts of smoking paraphernalia- both tobacco related and otherwise.
Prices range from cheap to expensive ($200 pipes, for instance), and the selection of [...]

Lake’s End Trading Company

November 15, 2006

In the great old shop that used to house the Towne Crier is a new kid on the King Street Block: The Lake’s End Trading Company. It’s the kind of store that anyone’s mother would love to browse in. It’s quaint, charming, and has a lovely selection of cottage country inspired home decor, clothing items, [...]

Dollarama: True to Its Title

November 10, 2006

Frankly, a giant dollar store seems waaaay out of place in Kingston’s ‘historic’ downtown (Princess). Whatever resentment I felt towards the store, perhaps to the detriment of my principles, melted away when I saw the prices.
Nothing here is over a dollar. Some things are less than a dollar. This is a true dollar store, complete [...]

Cataraqui Town Center

October 28, 2006

The Cataraqui Town center is the largest shopping center in Kingston, located at Highway 2 and Gardiners Road. Parking is ample and services and amenities are plentiful for a city of Kingston’s size. The mall is so primely located in the suburban shopping core that if the Cat Center doesn’t have what you are looking [...]

Shoppers Drug Mart

October 28, 2006

136 Princess Street: Downtown Location
Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00-9:00, Saturday 9:00-7:00, Sunday 10:00-6:00
This location was very recently renovated. It looks quite spiffy now, very sleek, with a heavy focus on cosmetics. It’s definitely a ’boutique’ drugstore in some respects, and one of a limited number of locations to be refurbished in Canada. If you [...]

Clinic Pharmacy

October 28, 2006

The Clinic Pharmacy is a matchbox-sized pharmacy located in Kingston General Hospital, next to the lab. There’s not much here in the way of cosmetics (well, there’s nothing actually), but you can purchase typical hygienic items like q-tips, and non-prescription drugs at well above the standard price.
What is being sold here, is convenience. You can [...]

Heel Boy

October 27, 2006

Heel Boy is easily the best shoe store for the young, trendy consumer in Kingston. That said, there are much better footwear options in Toronto or Montreal, and it’s probably worth saving up your shoe budget (or credit card limit) and doing your shopping there. However, as far as Kingston goes, we are lucky to [...]
