1) They Offer Free Workouts
The lulu store in Kingston offers numerous free workout classes each week. All you have to do is show up and an instructor will be ready and waiting to teach. They have yoga mats you can borrow and all you need to bring is a water bottle. You can even fill up with filtered water at the store.
The majority of their free classes tend to be yoga themed, but I’ve seen all sorts of classes offered; from Zumba to Booty Camp to Crossfit. Check their events calendar or Facebook events section for more info.
2) They Are Obsessed With Social Media
Kingston small businesses seem quite behind the times when it comes to using social media. lululemon is certifiably obsessed and does an amazing job at it. Check them out on Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and even Yelp.
3) You Can Find Out What’s New In Store Without Braving The Snow
If you are like me, leaving your house in the middle of January requires calculated effort. The lulus make it easy to know exactly what items they have available in stock without the comfort of your duvet.
- When new items arrive in store they update their Facebook page with a photo album highlighting all the new goodies.
- You can sign up for an Email Product Notification that emails you when new items hit this specific store. I really love the local touch – I don’t care what the Toronto lulu got, I want to know what my store has and this service hits the nail on the head.
- Ask them on Twitter. I’ve had great experiences using twitter to find out what products they have in stock. Much easier than picking up the phone thank you very much.
4) They Support Local Athletes
The store supports local athletes and instructors by promoting their businesses and offering them free clothing in exchange for testing it and offering feedback. Pretty cool! You can see all our local athletic heroes in action here (Go Tanya!).
5) They Can Hook You Up With Even MORE Free Fitness
For a small city, we have lots of amazing fitness opportunities. However, many are costly. If you ask about their Studio of the Month when you are in the store, or chat with their employees they will likely be able to hook you up with something free or cheap. Most of their employees look like students and seem to have a good handle on the local fitness scene – as well as the best deal options. I recently nabbed the two week Yoga Samatva unlimited pass for $20. Not too bad!

I agree. I’m actually writing my thesis on their social media efforts. They are strong from their corporate work right down to their store work online.
Attention all smokers: Do not buy anything from Lululemon unless you are absolutely sure the fit is perfect. If not, you will not be allowed to return an item for a smaller size (regardless if you had bought that item along with several other items the day before). They will inspect item behind closed doors and tell you because you smoke we are unable to exchange the item. They allows dogs in the store (you know they are smelly) and yet they are treated better than paying customers. Absolutely condescending and inappropriate customer service. Will never shop there again. Can’t imagine how smokers are tolerated at any fitness class. You’ve been informed. Shop at your own risk.
